Northumbria’s success in National Cadet League

The ETTA 2008-2009 National Cadets League is, as its name implies, a national competition open to Leagues and/or clubs which may apply to enter a maximum of 3 teams.

The competition is regionalised to minimise the amount of travel and Northfield School, Billingham is the venue for North East teams.

All competitors must be under the age of 15 at the 31 st December 2009.

The Northumbria League entered 2 teams made up of players from Cramlington Table Tennis Club.

Ryan Richardson, Dean Richardson and Ellis Cooper were the A team players with the B squad comprising of Ryan Guttridge, Karim Jazeri, Rahul Vaderha and Omar Elkardi.

The League was played over 4 Sundays in October, December, February and March.

There were 12 teams entered and over the first 3 Sundays all the teams played each other. Northumbria A topped the table with Northumbria B finishing in eigth place.

For the fourth week the 12 teams were divided into 2 divisions with the 6 top teams forming the first group and the remaining teams competing in Group B. All the teams played the other teams in their groups with Northumbria A winning all their matches and finishing with a clear lead.

Northumbria B also won all their games in the second group. However the points system was based on sets won and Sunderland took first place by 2 points.

This has been a good season for Northumbria’s Cadets and augers well for the future of Table Tennis in the area.
