The second annual Cramlington Junior 2 Star tournament, sponsored by aalco, the UK’s leading metal stockholder, took place at the Sporting Club Cramlington, Cramlington, Northumberland on Saturday 3 October 2009.
The junior boys title in the Cramlington Junior 2 star tournament was won by Northumberland’s Ryan Richardson who won the event after a close encounter with Cleveland ’s Ashley Scott in the final. Richardson won a close first game 11-9 then lost 5-11 before coming back again to win 11-8 9-11 11-8 in the last three games. He had previously defeated Shannon Walker of Cleveland in the semi-finals whilst Scott had beaten Northumberland’s Ellis Cooper in the other semi.
The junior girls title went to Kayleigh Forster of Cleveland who put out the top seed Eszter Soos of Durham in the semis before defeating the young Yorkshire player, Imogen Barber, in the final.
The 10 year old Yorkshire girl caught the eye on the day with some terrific hitting and was also runner-up to Forster in the cadet girls and under 13 girls singles.
The cadet boys was won by Scott who put out Billy Forster, also of Cleveland and then defeated Cooper in the final.
Aalco, the leading metal stockists, had sponsored the tournament which also included under 13 and under 11 boys events.
The under 13s was won by Northumberland’s Dean Richardson and Northumberland also had success in the under 11s when Jack Quinn defeated Adam Shafiq to take the trophy.
