All of the top players in the area took part in the Northumberland Closed table tennis tournament which was held at the Sporting Club of Cramlington over the weekend.
Andrew Wilkinson is the new champion taking the title from Eddie Smith who suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Chris Thorp in the second round. Thorp went on to reach the semi finals before losing to Mark Jackson who had pulled off a surprise result himself by beating Dave Godbold in the quarter finals. Wilkinson defeated Bart Vermoesen in the semis before having a convincing win over Jackson to take the title.

Godbold, partnered by Geoff Salter, won the doubles event, beating the holders Wilkinson and Smith in a closely fought final.
Godbold also took the Veterans title with victory over Neil Herrington in the final after having defeated Salter in a long semi final.
