Fund Raising Evening

Cramlington Table Tennis Club was set up in May 1995. As an early celebration of our 10th birthday a Fund Raising evening was held on Saturday 16 April at the Hind, in Cramlington.

Entertainment on the evening was by local entertainer Simon Jones who sang for us, ran the quiz and helped out in an impromptu karaoke performance from three of the attendees. Les Waters, a founder member and our oldest player gave us a few songs in the style of Bing Crosby.

The event was organised by Bernie McCardle, one of our Premier Division players. A lot of members helped out in many ways; selling entrance tickets, donating raffle prizes and food, selling raffle tickets and making sure everyone was enjoying themselves. Assisting Bernie with the arrangements were Aubrey Drapkin (champion raffle ticket seller) and Brian Philip. Special mention goes to David Graham (one of our first youngsters 10 years ago - and now old enough to shave and drink) who sold the most tickets for the do.

The Club strives to encourage participation in healthy activity through the promotion of table tennis. It tries to keep its subscription rates affordable. A deficit in funds was expected this year but thanks to some generous donations from members and friends and the £444.00 raised from this event we will just about break even in the year end April 2005. Thank you to the manageress of the Hind for providing the room and a big thank you to all who came on the night and those who were not able to attend but purchased raffle tickets.
